Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Response from Chris Thompson, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Response from
Chris Thompson, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA

Today marks 127 days since the April 20th Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. It has been a challenging time for all of us as we battled misperceptions of how Florida was affected by the oil spill. Certainly, it was - and continues to be - critical that we provide open, transparent information to visitors so they can make the most informed travel planning decisions possible.

I also know it’s important that we take the time to share our statewide response efforts for the brand and next steps with our industry members. The news of the well having been capped was truly a blessing; but, by no means are our response efforts over. There remain very real impacts on Florida’s brand, and our efforts are critical in recovery and restoration.

As we are committed to keeping you informed of our response efforts, I am hosting a wrap-up webinar to share what we did, what we learned and what needs to be done moving forward as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Please join me Thursday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Central.

There is no charge to attend this webinar; however, there are a limited number of lines available. So, register today to save your "seat."

The webinar will feature:
• Recap of statewide marketing response effort
• Results of recent research
• Fall opportunity to counter misperceptions

If you have any questions about the call or need anything, feel free to call us directly via our toll-free Industry Hotline at (877) 435-2872.

Please be sure to register for the webinar and put it on your calendar. I look forward to speaking with you.

Chris Thompson
President and CEO
